THE WACKADOOS STORY
The Wackadoos is a youth EDUCATION organisation based in the Port Macquarie region blending science, adventure, and creativity. Our main focus is giving young people opportunities to learn, build confidence, and work in teams through wacky STEM projects.
FOUNDER & CHIEF WACKADOO
LLOYD GODSON
Lloyd didn’t plan on becoming a teacher. His first business card said “adventurer”. He’s lived underwater for a month, pedalled a human-powered submarine through the Greek islands, unicycled up Mt Kosciuszko and holds a Guinness World Record for generating electricity while pedalling underwater. Along the way he worked with the Australian Geographic Society and ocean explorer Dr Bob Ballard (who discovered the Titanic), blending science with wild, physical challenges.
Inspired by the teachers he met on those expeditions, Lloyd co-founded The Nature School in Port Macquarie in 2015 – a not-for-profit built on real-world, student-led learning. His “living lessons” have taken students flying over Antarctica, SCUBA diving on the Great Barrier Reef, to youth conferences in Asia and underwater robotics competitions overseas. In 2021 he was recognised as a Commonwealth Bank Teaching Fellow for his work transforming education.
The Wackadoos is where all of this collides: adventure, science, sustainability and unforgettable learning experiences for young people. In 2026, Lloyd was selected as a Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation Backing the Future Changemaker to help launch The Wackadoos youth organisation. Lloyd is committed to helping young Australians of all backgrounds – whatever their unique superpower – achieve their personal best by sharing the excitement of exploration and adventure through innovative experiential learning opportunities.
